Home New Home at Municipality of Marousi at Athens

"LEARNING ABOUT THE OTHER" is an information and awareness campaign aimed at encouraging dialogue on the challenge of the refugees’ integration. The painting exhibition “With the loon on the map”, by painter Giannis Christakos and the photo exhibition “The other face”, by the photographer Spyros Vangelakis, “talk” to each other in an effort to raise public awareness and to promote the debate on this sensitive issue.
Through different visual tools, artists approach the different aspects of the refugee phenomenon. The diachronic dimension of population movements, transcended on the painting board, from the one hand and the dramatic element of the refugee, as a human being, through the lens of the camera, by the other.

The event is held under the auspices of the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece (KEDE), which recognizing the need for social inclusion, encourage any initiative that contributes to the dialogue and answer the critical question of sustainable coexistence and social cohesion.

The grand opening of the event will take place on Friday 25th May 2018 at 20:00 at the “Spiros Louis” Olympic Gallery in Maroussi-Attica.

The exhibitions will last up to 5 June and will be free to the public.

In the context of the campaign will take place the follow events:

Wednesday 30 May 2018 (20:00): Presentation of the book by Efthimia Babatsi-Tzerefou “KORASON” in a night full of memories and live music from Naoussa.
Friday 1 June 2018 (20:00): Documentary viewing. Selected documentaries from the StoryDoc’s collection created by Greeks and refugees in Athens, Mytilene, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Turkey in the context of its "Home New Home 2017" action.
