STAND BY ME

A Refugee couple tells us what they lived through together with their children in an attempt to escape a terrifying life. This approach contrasts with the images we see now, of the same man working constructing a structure, the woman baking bread and their children going to Greek School in Mytilini. Pinnacle of this documentary is the birthday celebration of their young son with a big party at camp. All of this became a reality because some organizations and their volunteers “STAND BY THEM” and cure their wounds, physical and emotional.

Director's interview

At this specific documentary, what is striking is the contrast between the horror life of the refugees before they immigrated and their image of having an almost normal life.

It is not possible to imagine how much pain can be coped by one human who is tortured by other humans for political purposes.

Every story is different, every need is differentiated, but what does not change is that we need to act, because nobody should be in danger, nobody should suffer and especially the children. For that, neither the state nor the ministry, the local authorities the organisations  and the other people should be held accountable. All and each of us should take action because out there, there are needs and we can satisfy them.
